AISI S2 is a Shock-Resisting Steel grade Tool Steel. It is composed of (in weight percentage) 0.40-0.55% Carbon (C), 0.30-0.50% Manganese (Mn), 0.90-1.20% Silicon (Si), 0.30% Nickel (Ni), 0.30-0.60% Molybdenum (Mo), 0.50% Vanadium (V), 0.25% Copper (Cu), 0.03% Phosphorus (P), 0.03% Sulfur (S), and the base metal Iron (Fe). Other designations of AISI S2 tool steel include UNS T41902 and AISI S2.Steel is the common name for a large family of iron alloys. EN24 EN24T flat bar and round bar steel stockholders and suppliers, delivering to the whole of the UK. This grade is a nickel chromium molybdenum specification usually supplied hardened and tempered as EN24T or EN24U. EN24T steel is readily machineable and combines a good high tensile steel strength with shock resistance, ductility and wear resistance. It is a widely used engineering steel with a tensile strength of 850/1000 N/mm². It has reasonably good impact properties at low temperatures, whilst it is also suitable for a variety of elevated temperature applications. Flame or induction hardening of EN24T can give a case hardness of 50 HRc or higher.

Applications   

• EN24 was originally introduced for use in the motor vehicle and machine tool industries for gears, pinions, shafts, spindles and the like. Later its applications became much more extended. Suitable to produce parts for such as locomotives, _cranes, rolling mills, coal cutting machinery etc. where good strength and fatigue resistance is called for. Other applications for EN24 and EN24T are found in die casting and hot metal working, such as die bolsters, racks and pinions, angle pins for pressure die casting, hot stamping dies for aluminium stamping, die beds for steel stamping, lower temperature nut, bolt and rivet heading dies, large section drop forging dies. It is widely used in the plastic and rubber moulding industries for moulds (particularly rubber moulds), hob retaining rings, patens, retaining rings for built up moulds, stop pins for moulds. For moulds EN24 is normally supplies hardened and tempered to ‘T’ condition. If a higher hardness is desired EN24T should be annealed and then heat treated to the required hardness.

EN30B steel stockholders and suppliers, delivering to the whole of the India. EN30B is widely used for plastic moulds, but is also suitable for many other applications. The hardening treatment is relatively simple, quenching in air or oil from 810-830°C followed by tempering, with excellent mechanical properties being obtained. Owing to its strength this steel can be used for compression and transfer moulding as well as injection moulding and the relative freedom from distortion makes it superior to case hardening steels for complex mould applications. With limited availability of certain sizes in EN30B West Yorkshire Steel can also offer ‘high carbon’ EN30B to grade X45NiCrMo4. EN30B will machine readily in the annealed condition in which it is supplied.


Chemical Composition of EN30B

Applications EN30B alloy steel can be used for many purposes where toughness and high tensile strength are requirements. For example: components of small presses including anvils, collars, strikers or hammers, rams or punch holders. Other applications include rivet snaps, air hardening cold chisels, crimping tools, clutch keys, racks, pinions and angle pins for pressure die casting tooling. EN30B will machine readily in the annealed condition in which it is supplied.
Forging Heat the steel carefully to the forging temperature of 1000-1100°C, soak well. After forging, cool slowly in a furnace to 100°C maximum and anneal immediately.

Annealing To obtain the softest condition heat carefully to 630-650°C. Soak for a minimum of 2 hours, then cool in the furnace or in air. It is advisable to repeat this treatment to obtain the best machining characteristics.

Product Details:

S7 is a shock resisting tool steel with excellent toughness and high strength, along with medium wear resistance. It has maximum shock resistance and high compression strength, which gives it good deformation resistance in use, while retaining good toughness. S7 is easy to machine in the annealed condition and can be readily heat treated. It can be quenched in air, exhibiting minimal distortion on hardening. S7 also has medium hot work characteristics, making it a versatile tool steel for both cold and warm shock applications, as well as plastic molds that require high hardness. S7 de-carb free is available in rounds, flats and squares, as well as ground flat stock and drill rod.

Applications:

Typical applications for S7 tool steel are punches, chisels, blanking dies, forming dies, cold and warm header dies, shears, compression dies, hobbed dies, high hardness plastic molds, zinc die casting dies, gripper dies, etc.

 

Forging:

• Preheat 1200°-1300°F. Forge at 2000°-2050°F. Stop at 1700°F and cool slowly.

Annealing:

• 1500°-1550°F, cool slowly to 1000°F, air cool. Brinell 197 max.

Preheating:

• 1200°-1300°F, prior to hardening.

Hardening:

• 1750°F. Quench in air if cross section is 2-1/2" or smaller; sections 2-1/2" to 6" should be oil quenched to black (1000°F) followed by air cooling to 150°F. Larger cross sections should be oil quenched to 150°F.

Tempering

• Double temper one hour per inch of section thickness to desired heating rate of 2 hours per inch. Cool in air to room temperature between the two tempers. Suggested: Cold working applications 400°-500°F. Hot working applications 900°-1000°F.
